José Lopes dos Santos was born on 18 December 1946 in Lisbon.
He holds an Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Instituto Superior Técnico and the Executive MBA AESE/IESE.
Over the course of his career, he has been Director of maintenance at Petroquímica, Director of Engineering at F.I.M.A/Lever, of FIRESTONE/BRIDGESTONE, and manager of the firm Barros & Barros. He was on the Board at the APMI – Portuguese Association of Industrial Maintenance. In recent years, he has worked with ISQ, in the area of Maintenance Organisation.
Since 2006, he has been Manager of INTEGRIDADE, Serviços de Manutenção e Integridade Estrutural [‘Integrity, Maintenance and Structural Integrity Services’] (an affiliate of ISQ). He holds the title of Maintenance Specialist, granted by the Order of Engineers. He is Technical Coordinator of Maintenance Training at ISQ and Post-Graduate Trainer in Quality Engineering and Maintenance Management at ISQ.
He is a Professor at AESE in the department of Operations.
He has had several articles published in the ISQ and APMI journals.
