On June 1, 2015, at eight in the morning, Nuno Vasco Lopes addressed the employees of the Glintt group (“Glintt”) via email to introduce his new Executive Committee and announce: “In the coming weeks, I will continue to get to know the business and look for opportunities to improve the value we deliver to all stakeholders.<\/em> [\u2026] If we are able to improve our Quality of Service, with rigor and discipline, and if at the same time we are efficient in doing so, we will certainly be prepared to face all challenges. Together, we are a great organization. We want to be even better.<\/em>“<\/p>\n\n

A pharmacist by training and Vice-President of the Board of the National Association of Pharmacies since 2013, Nuno Vasco Lopes has always been linked to the pharmacy sector and its management. He served as Secretary-General of the Pharmaceutical Society for four years and as Director of Alliance Healthcare for nine years. Now, he was assuming the position of Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) of Glintt, one of the largest Portuguese technology companies, whose main shareholder is Farminveste SGPS, S.A. <\/p>\n\n

Nuno Vasco Lopes’ challenge was to achieve sustainable growth for the group, aligned with the main shareholder’s vision, which had been defined as: “To implement innovative solutions that contribute<\/em> to the creation of value in Healthcare and strengthen the alliance between Pharmacies<\/em> and People.<\/em>” “.<\/p>\n\n

Taking advantage of one of the few moments alone, sitting in his new office overlooking the enigmatic Sintra Mountains, the new CEO reflected on the starting point of his mandate. He knew that in leading Glintt, he would face a sector new to him, fragmented employees, and an impatient shareholder. Therefore, several questions sprang to mind: “What should be the priorities of my strategic agenda? Should I proceed with the process of divesting non-core areas? How can I solve the problem of the company’s cultural identity? How can I improve the efficiency of the structure?<\/em>” <\/p>\n\n
