He holds a degree in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (1989). He moved into management training and healthcare management after completing the AESE\/IESE Executive MBA (2002-2004). He earned a PhD in Human, Social, and Legal Sciences from the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC-Barcelona, 2017); his thesis is titled “Misi\u00f3n, motivaci\u00f3n e integraci\u00f3n profesional en la gesti\u00f3n hospitalaria.” <\/p>\n\n

He is a Professor of Human Behavior in Organizations at AESE. He has been the Director of PADIS \u2013 Senior Management Program for Healthcare Institutions since 2004. He has been a coach in the AESE Executive Coaching team since 2012. He is a member of the AESE Board of Directors (2003-2010; 2017 to date). He has been an Associate Partner at DPM Consulting Portugal since 2017 and is a member of the Research Committee of the DPMC Foundation (2021). Best Paper Award at the 4th International Conference on Organization and Management (ICOM 2019), organized by the College of Business at Abu Dhabi University, for the work titled “Applying Business Interactive Games for Capacity Building: a Case Study in Health Care Operations Management,” co-authored with Prof. Nuno Biga of AESE Business School.Co-author of the book “Sonhando com um hospital optimista,” a guide to revitalizing the humanization of care provided in healthcare institutions (Edi\u00e7\u00f5es AESE, 2018). He contributed an article to the work “Reflex\u00f5es sobre \u00c9tica M\u00e9dica,” which features contributions from 20 other healthcare specialists (Principia, 2019). He is the co-author of the chapter “Managing people with ethics and compassion” in the book “Emerging Human and Techno-Human Business Management Dynamics in a Globalized Environment” (Nova Science Publishers, 2020). He is the co-author of the chapter “Being \u2018on a Mission\u2019 at Work: How to Make Mission Statements Effective in the Healthcare Sector,” in the book “Regionalized Management of Medicine” (Springer, 2022). He is also the co-author of the chapter “O prop\u00f3sito da organiza\u00e7\u00e3o” in the book “A Direc\u00e7\u00e3o Geral como Pol\u00edtica de Empresa” (AESE, 2025). He has participated in several studies: “La cultura empresarial: estudio empirico en empresas espa\u00f1olas y portuguesas,” by IESE (2007), “Impact of working hours on sleep and mental health” (2017), “Atrito e reten\u00e7\u00e3o do talento” (2024), and “Sa\u00fade Mental nas Empresas” (2025).<\/p>\n\n

He teaches regularly in the Emerging Leaders Programme (Timoney Leadership Institute, Ireland) and in the Programa Direcci\u00f3n de Sistemas de Salud (Dominican Republic).He is the author of the case study “Nelson Pereira” (2011) and co-author of the cases “Matilde” (2013), “Guilherme” (2014), “Rodolfo” (2017), and “Compassionate Leadership in the ICU of the Hospital de Manresa” (2022). He supervised the writing of the case studies “O Centro de cirurgia cardio-tor\u00e1cica de Coimbra” (2006), “O Departamento de Opera\u00e7\u00f5es do Millennium BCP” (2012), and “SAFE4PRO, um neg\u00f3cio pouco seguro” (2017).During his university years, he was the director of the Boavista Student Residence in Porto (1989-1992) and was responsible for several University Work Camps: Jachembie Zdroy (Katowice, Poland \u2013 1988), S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 and Pr\u00edncipe (1989), and the organization of Volunteer Camps at the Jo\u00e3o Paulo II Support Center for the Severely Disabled (1993\u20131996). He was a permanent collaborator of the Institute for University Solidarity and Cooperation (ISU), a Development NGO (1992-2002). <\/p>\n\n
