He holds a PhD from Stanford University (1989), a degree in Economics from UCP, and a master’s degree in the same field from UNL.
He is a Professor of Economics at NYU and a collaborator at AESE, having taught at the following universities: Nova de Lisboa, London Business School, London School of Economics, Berkeley, Yale, and IESE. He currently holds the Paganelli-Bull Chair in Economics at New York University.
He is a research fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR). He was President of the European Association for Research in Industrial Economics (EARIE), a member of the Economic Advisory Group to the President of the European Commission, and a consultant to various public and private organizations.
He has consulted for various organizations, from the New York Mets to the OECD, from Pfizer to several Portuguese governments, with notable work on the Airbus-Boeing litigation between 2005 and 2009.
His research areas focus on the dynamic aspects of competition between firms.
He is the author of the book “Introduction to Industrial Organization,” published by MIT Press, translated into 7 languages and adopted by universities in low-income countries.
