He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon. He attended AESE’s PADE in 2007, alongside other postgraduate and executive education programmes at the Faculty of Law of Lisbon, Stanford Business School (USA), the University of Cambridge (UK), Stern NYU (USA), Kellogg School of Management (USA) and MIT Sloan (USA).
He is Director of the AMEG | Advanced Management in Energy programme, an AESE initiative in partnership with the Portuguese Energy Association. Since January 2019, he has been President of the Advisory Board of the Petroleum Reserves Unit of the National Entity for the Energy Sector (ENSE).
He began his career as an Engineering Officer in the Army in 1982, after completing his studies at the Military Academy.
In 1992, he joined Mobil Oil, where he led the Purchasing and Engineering Departments in Portugal and Spain.
Later, at BP plc, he took on commercial responsibilities in the Fuels area. Between 2000 and 2005, he was Operations Director of BP Spain, based in Madrid. He subsequently assumed international roles in the area of Safety and Environment for the entire Europe region, as well as the leadership of the Fuels Logistics Department for the Iberian Peninsula.
He was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BP Portugal between 2010 and 2013, after which he continued his career as an independent professional.
