Num artigo do mês passado para o Negócios, que Paulo Morgado intitulou de “agitação no parado”, conseguimos numa leitura rápida ficar com uma visão muito clara dos principais problemas que afectam o nosso país e do impacto e das consequências que daí resultaram nos últimos 20 anos. Estamos estagnados e pior que isso, estamos a ficar para trás.
Do PIB à produtividade por hora, da taxa de pobreza à divida externa e da descapitalização à receita fiscal venha o diabo e escolha. A cereja em cima do bolo é que as empresas nacionais continuam a apostar muito pouco na formação e o exemplo, como sempre, vem de cima e neste caso não é o melhor. Todos os estudos indicam que vamos viver muitos mais anos pelo que, consequentemente e sobretudo em Portugal devido à provável falência da segurança social, iremos trabalhar até mais tarde.
Ao ritmo que o conhecimento está a evoluir não será possível acompanhar tudo o que se passa sem formação, sobretudo formação contínua. Assim, tal como refere o estudo da Pordata se o cenário atual já não é muito favorável para os empresários nacionais devido às graves lacunas que apresentam ao nível da formação como é que será daqui a 5, 10 ou 15 anos?
É certo que muitos destes empresários se rodeiam de equipas com a formação necessária, mas imaginem o que seria se esses empresários juntassem ao seu talento inato a formação adequada e contínua?
E se o fizessem ao mesmo tempo que apostam na formação para todos os trabalhadores da empresa? A formação, tanto a nível pessoal como profissional, é uma oportunidade de crescimento e enriquecimento sem comparação.
A atualização de conhecimentos e de perspectivas a par da riqueza que advêm do networking e de conhecer novas pessoas é meio caminho andado para a inovação, mudança e para o crescimento.
O saber não ocupa lugar, antes pelo contrário, no caso dos empresários poderá é transportá-los assim como às suas empresas e aos seus trabalhadores para outros lugares, mais cimeiros, mais competitivos e mais recompensadores. Liderar é, entre muitas outras coisas, dar o exemplo e apostar na formação pelo que nesta área em particular há muito para fazer nas empresas e caberá aos empresários dar o primeiro passo e contrariar o ditado porque cada vez mais burro velho vai mais do que a tempo de aprender línguas. O país agradece.

A exposição do arquivo do acervo, com curadoria de João Silvério, reúne, no Museu Ibérico de Arqueologia e Arte de Abrantes (MIAA), 55 obras de 24 artistas, da Coleção Figueiredo Ribeiro. As temáticas desta exposição centram-se essencialmente na paisagem e na figura humana, através da pintura, do desenho, da gravura, da fotografia e da escultura.
A Coleção Figueiredo Ribeiro é a maior coleção de arte contemporânea de Portugal a seguir à Coleção Berardo. O seu proprietário é Fernando Ribeiro – Alumnus PADE –, que acordou com o Município de Abrantes que a coleção ficaria no MIAA. O museu tem várias alas, onde se podem ver peças de várias épocas, desde a Antiguidade à atualidade. Em 2023 o MIAA recebeu o prémio “Museu do Ano” da Associação Portuguesa de Museologia. Me da mucho gusto recomendarles dos libros escritos por profesionales que reúnen la doble (y rara) condición de contar con una vasta y rica experiencia en el campo de la dirección general y a la vez ser profundamente conocedores de los temas conceptuales que desde distintas disciplinas nutren la tarea del alto directivo.
El libro constituye una muy completa antología del trabajo intelectual desarrollado por el Prof. Luis Manuel Calleja, de extensa trayectoria profesional como directivo, consultor y profesor. En este último rol es en el que muchos de los Alumni de AESE de los programas EMBA, PADIS, GOS, PDE y, especialmente, el PADE lo han conocido. El libro aborda la Dirección General con una perspectiva en la que el Prof. Calleja vuelca sobre el texto el producto de su pensamiento lúcido y profundamente humanista nutrido del aporte de disciplinas como la economía de empresa, las ciencias políticas, la ética y la filosofía.
El conjunto de escritos del Prof. Calleja incluidos en el libro fue clasificado y extendido gracias al trabajo de su hijo Ricardo, profesor de Ética del IESE. Em março de 1985, por ocasião do Ano Internacional da Juventude, proclamado pela ONU, mais de 300 mil jovens, provenientes dos cinco continentes, reuniram-se com S. João Paulo II, na Praça de São Pedro. Tal foi o extraordinário impacto do encontro com esta multidão de jovens que o Papa decide, nesse mesmo ano, instituir a Jornada Mundial da Juventude. Desde então, o evento realiza-se anualmente, intercalando entre anos com uma expressão mais local e anos de celebração mundial.
Cada um destes encontros mundiais, tem sempre impacto à escala global e à escala pessoal. Marca, profundamente, a vida de quem organiza, de quem colabora ou de quem vem simplesmente para participar. Mas também não deixa indiferente muitos dos que, de longe, acompanham o evento. Qualquer JMJ impressiona desde logo pelo extraordinário número de jovens, e menos jovens, que congrega. Impressiona também pela beleza estética, cultural, sobretudo humana de cada momento da própria Jornada. Mas interpela-nos principalmente, porque a presença de cada jovem é uma presença pessoal, viva, que manifesta o desejo íntimo, o sonho de uma vivência comunitária onde, para muitos, se dá o encontro com Deus e, para todos, se festeja o encontro fraterno, universal, com muitos outros, mais além da diversidade de proveniências ou gerações. E isto não pode deixar de ser uma grande alegria e um grande sinal de esperança para todos nós. É a promessa de um presente e de um futuro à medida da humanidade de cada um.
Transpondo para outras comunidades de pessoas, como as empresas e organizações em geral, comprova-se também que é positivamente diferenciador quando se vive a diversidade como uma realidade enriquecedora para todos, e se consegue criar um ambiente no qual todos podem desenvolver-se e contribuir para o bem comum, com os seus próprios talentos, potenciando assim o sentimento de pertença.
Mas nem sempre será assim. Embora o tema seja, hoje em dia, um tema muito estudado, dialogado e, até mesmo, regulado, com alguma surpresa se verifica que o apelo a uma maior diversidade nas organizações não está a produzir alterações significativas, pelo menos ao ritmo desejável. Mesmo com muitos estudos a apontar para a elevada correlação entre diversidade e desempenho nos negócios e com o muito que está a ser feito a nível de políticas e práticas nas organizações, a verdade é que é realmente muito difícil mudar mentalidades. E disso se trata.
Katherine W. Phillips (1972-2020), professora da Columbia Business School, escreveu um ótimo artigo sobre o tema, com o título How Diversity Make us Smarter, onde conclui que estar na companhia de pessoas que são diferentes de nós, faz-nos ser mais criativos, mais diligentes e mais dedicados ao trabalho. Isto porque a simples interação com pessoas com diferentes perfis, encoraja os membros da equipa a prepararem-se melhor, utilizando “os cinco sentidos na busca de informação”, a anteciparem pontos de vista alternativos e a esperar que a colaboração mútua exija esforço.
Mais ainda, a diversidade de perfis profissionais reforça a criatividade e inovação, levando a uma melhor tomada de decisões e solução de problemas. E a mesma lógica se aplica à diversidade social. Quando o grupo conta com pessoas de diferentes gerações, sexo, etnias ou outras dimensões, tem acesso a experiências diferenciadas, potenciando a incorporação de novas ideias e perspetivas no debate. Contudo, todos sabemos que também pode causar desconforto, maior dificuldade na comunicação e relacionamento interpessoal, falta de confiança, maior probabilidade de conflitos, desrespeito e outros problemas comportamentais e menos coesão. Como ultrapassar, então?
A chave está, precisamente, no trinómio: Dignidade – Diversidade – Pertença. Ou seja, o ponto de partida, não é a diversidade, aquilo que nos diferencia, mas a igual dignidade de cada um. E acreditar que somos iguais em dignidade, levar-nos-á a, tranquilamente, abrirmo-nos aos outros e respeitar todos. E, então, só então, deixarmo-nos surpreender, apreciar e desfrutar com o modo como cada um brilha de forma única e diferente de todos os outros.
Promover o diálogo aberto, a defesa da liberdade e a colaboração pressupõe implementar políticas consistentes e alinhadas com a valorização da diversidade. Implica também trabalhar o ambiente no sentido da aprendizagem mútua, ou seja, de genuíno interesse e abertura para aprender com o outro, nomeadamente naquilo em que é diferente (o que pode ser difícil, já que a aproximação mais comum é procurarmos descobrir pontos em comum). Contudo, reitero que a confiança, o respeito mútuo e a solidariedade, imprescindíveis para uma equipa, resultam de nos reconhecermos iguais, mesmo que diferentes. Quando não enraizadas na dignidade da pessoa humana, todas as políticas de Diversidade e Inclusão serão superficiais, impostas e contranatura e, como tal, de difícil adesão.
Pelo contrário, num ambiente como o descrito de compreensão mútua e vontade de cooperação, é possível estabelecer as condições para que todos, sem exceção, possam crescer e sentir-se úteis, valorizados e estimados, contribuindo, para a equipa, com o que têm e o que são. Sem esta vinculação, efetiva e afetiva, dificilmente se desenvolverá o sentido de pertença à equipa próxima e à organização como um todo.
Depois do interregno mais prolongado devido à pandemia, é a vez de Lisboa receber a Jornada Mundial da Juventude. Recordo algumas palavras da mensagem do Papa Francisco, em março de 2022, dirigida aos jovens que organizam a JMJ: “Que nesta Jornada aprendam a olhar sempre para o horizonte, a olhar sempre mais além. Não levantem uma parede diante da vossa vida. As paredes fecham, o horizonte faz-te crescer. Olhem sempre o horizonte, também com os olhos, mas sobretudo com o coração. Abram o coração a outras culturas, a outros rapazes, a outras raparigas, que vêm também a esta Jornada” e, no final, que “cada um saia deste encontro melhor do que quando chegou”. Queiramos nós, e Deus, que a JMJ Lisboa 2023 deixe este legado de humanidade positivo e duradouro em Portugal e no Mundo.

Refiro-me aos produtos/serviços que nós utilizamos habitualmente e sobre os quais deve haver uma confiança indesmentível. Eles jogam muitas vezes com as nossas vidas e, por isso, não podem falhar.
Quem precisa de fármacos espera que eles sejam “exatos”, feitos com o conteúdo preciso e processos de produção aprovados. Em geral, significa aprovados pelas entidades de certificação locais e/ou de grande prestígio, ou de países onde o produto/serviço possa vir a ser utilizado. Em particular, tratando-se de fármacos, pela FDA-Food and Drug Administration dos Estados Unidos, cuja aprovação funciona como um passaporte de circulação por quase todo o mundo. De facto a FDA habituou a um serviço sério, chamando imediata atenção para qualquer pormenor, mesmo insignificante, que não esteja de acordo com as normas.
Muitas cartas da FDA para chamar a atenção aos laboratórios sobre algo não 100% correto, dão-nos um descanso de que teremos os medicamentos produzidos de acordo com os requisitos de qualidade e feitos dentro das melhores normas de produção aprovadas.
E ainda bem, pois assim podemos utilizar tais fármacos sem preocupações, pois a entidade que os certificou fez bem o seu trabalho.
Não é suficiente saber produzir e fazê-lo aos melhores custos. Importa ter um bom produto, bem fabricado, que funciona e no qual não houve simplificações nem curtos-circuitos para “facilitar”.
Tanto o custo como a qualidade devem ser consistentes, sempre. Não apenas na grande maioria das vezes. É isso que fortalece a confiança, que deve ser mantida e, se possível, aumentada ao surgirem novos meios científicos disponíveis para a reforçar.
Nos fármacos é de ter em conta que está em jogo a saúde dos utilizadores, um tema de vida ou morte, em muitos casos. Deveria haver algum organismo em cada país, se é que não existe ainda, focado na exportação de produtos muito sensíveis (como os fármacos), para não se exporem vidas à sua ação, quando não são bem fabricados. Indiretamente, também o nome do país ficará implicado, se não utilizam os componentes indicados, nem os processos aprovados.
Porque, mesmo que seja um só laboratório que não procedeu com correção, é toda a produção do país que será posta em causa. A generalização é inevitável e sempre penalizante para aqueles que procuram fazer sempre bem e com consciência.
A Índia - pela particular situação de pobreza a que foi relegada pelo colonizador britânico, roubando quanto pode, não se importando nada com a fome e a morte dos cidadãos indianos -, teve de encontrar formas de produção de fármacos a preços muito acessíveis para que toda a população pudesse ter acesso a eles, logo após a independência. E, de facto conseguiu, apoiada nas economias de escala ditadas por uma vasta população; quanto maior o volume de produção, menor o custo unitário. Isso também permitiu à Índia entrar nos mercados mais pobres, de países estrangeiros, o que criou um ciclo-virtuoso: maior produção, com exportação, levou a menor custo de produção e, portanto, a preços decrescentes de venda…
Outro setor muito sensível e com fortes efeitos emocionais é o da Aviação Civil. É crescente o número de pessoas que viaja, por necessidade ou por lazer. E todos precisam de estar confiantes no meio que utilizam, com a convicção de que tudo funcionará bem e cada qual chegará ao seu destino, sem problemas.
Num dado momento do dia, haverá dezenas de milhar de aeronaves voando pelo espaço. Mas se há um pequeno desastre, ele cria uma forte comoção, com um impacte bem negativo em quem tem de viajar, mesmo que seja numa Companhia diferente da acidentada.
É muito de agradecer a toda a armadura de segurança em torno das aeronaves.
Aos fabricantes, por atuarem com rapidez, quando algo se nota não estar bem e deva ser corrigido. Importa não fazer poupanças perigosas, com gastos para treinar o pessoal com os novos softwares, pois essa poupança pode ser fatal, como já o foi alguma vez!
Às autoridades locais que impõem regras estritas de funcionamento, retirando da circulação as aeronaves sobre as quais há alguma suspeita, quer sobre o seu software ou o hardware, no que toca aos sistemas de propulsão ou de segurança, até que fique tudo perfeitamente claro.
É bom notar, como uma marca muito positiva, o facto de que com o grande aumento do número de voos dentro da Índia e das suas ligações com o exterior, não ter havido acidentes registados desde há muitos anos. Não se pode descansar e os Organismos de verificação e aprovação devem continuar a ser implacáveis, pois estão em jogo centenas de vidas, em cada voo.
Estar a par do que os fabricantes dos diferentes tipos de aeronaves chamam a atenção para a segurança e ter uma atitude cautelosa, proativa e sem contemplações, para fazer aparcar as aeronaves em dúvida. Haver organismos nacionais compenetrados com a sua missão e a fazer o que é necessário, para tornar as viagens seguras e proteger as vidas dos passageiros da tripulação é o mínimo que deles se pode esperar. A vivacidade da aviação civil é bem notória com as duas recentes ordens de compra: de 470 aeronaves, pelo Grupo TATA, e de 500, pela INDIGO.
Há países com normas de exigência apertadas, que, por exemplo, não permitem voos de companhias que funcionam com normas mais relaxadas de manutenção e conservação das suas aeronaves. Essa é uma atitude extremamente louvável, pois qualquer companhia que faça ligação a um país ou cidade é tida na conta de estar a responder a todas as regras estipuladas. Se não estão a ter esse comportamento, melhor é rejeitar os seus voos para não induzir em erro os possíveis viajantes.
Os parâmetros de segurança e qualidade não podem ser negociados, vistos como algo secundário. São imprescindíveis. Talvez o segredo seja ser proativo fazendo cumprir com exatidão todos os princípios estabelecidos.
