É atualmente IT Technology Advisory Director na Jerónimo Martins.
Anteriormente, foi Diretor de Inovação na área de consumidor e de sistema de informação, tendo sido o responsável pela componente tecnológica da loja laboratório da Jerónimo Martins.
Rui Tomás tem uma longa carreira na área de sistemas de informação que iniciou na IBM Portugal como Engenheiro de Sistemas e depois como Consultor. Posteriormente, ingressou na Direção de Sistemas de Informação da Jerónimo Martins, onde desempenhou diversas funções, incluindo Responsável de Integração de Sistemas e Diretor de Infraestrutura.

Durante o curso fez um estágio no Departamento de Marketing do Pmelink e na Lusitania. Trabalhou como analista financeira no Departamento de Planeamento e Controlo da Vodafone e em gestão de projetos no BPI. Foi Diretora Geral de uma consultora de entidades sem fins lucrativos que se dedica às responsabilidades institucionais dos seus clientes quer ao nível fiscal e laboral quer em fundraising e organização de projetos sociais de cooperação internacional, nomeadamente em África. Mobilizou grupos de mais de 50 jovens em ações de solidariedade, cultura e formação durante mais de 15 anos.
Atualmente é Finance Director no Board of Directors da Europe Startup Nations Alliance (ESNA), organismo europeu dedicado a impulsionar a posição de liderança da Europa no ecossistema global das startups. É Corporate Social Responsibility Advisor na ActiveCap - Capital Partners, SCR S.A., uma sociedade de capital de risco especializada no investimento em empresas portuguesas de elevado potencial de crescimento ou em situações especiais, onde esteve como Diretora Financeira e de Compliance. Iniciou a carreira em fundos de investimento no Banco Carregosa (primeiro, no Serviço de depositário de Fundos de Investimento e depois como responsável da área financeira e administrativa da Carregosa SGOIC) e tem formação em prevenção do branqueamento de capitais e do financiamento ao terrorismo.
Na AESE é Subdiretora do MBA, teaching fellow na área de Economia, Finanças, Controlo e Contabilidade e integra a equipa de coaching, tendo também colaborado como diretora de programa de um Seminário para Universitários (Compassionate Leadership) e como monitora do Summer School.
Participou num programa de media training e preparou uma ted talk para ajudar os estudantes do secundário a escolher o seu percurso profissional. Fez parte da direção de um programa de desenvolvimento pessoal e impacto social dirigido à geração Z e da direção de uma associação juvenil que se dedica à formação da personalidade de adolescentes, tendo como meios o acompanhamento personalizado, a ocupação útil dos tempos livres e o apoio ao estudo. Foi chefe de equipa e responsável por 566 voluntários de 18 países do mundo na Jornada Mundial da Juventude Lisboa 2023.

É licenciado em Direito pela Universidade de Lisboa, tem uma pós-graduação em Gestão e Direito de Empresas, pela Nova SBE Executive Education, uma pós-graduação em Enterprise Data Science and Analytics, pela Nova IMS, e o Executive MBA AESE/IESE.
É professor de Finanças na AESE, doutorando em Ciências e Tecnologias da Informação no ISCTE, investigador no INESC-ID, e consultor.
Foi administrador (CFO) e partner da Insight Venture – Sociedade de Capital de Risco, SA, senior consultant na One to One Corporate Finance e CEO na Sixt Rent-a-Car Portugal, tendo desempenhado ainda as funções de administrador financeiro da Navalrocha – Sociedade de Construção e Reparação Navais, SA até 2012. Exerceu anteriormente as funções de adjunto do Ministro da Defesa Nacional, após o que ocupou os cargos de diretor do Departamento de Assuntos Jurídicos do Ministério da Defesa Nacional e de vice-presidente do Instituto Português de Apoio ao Desenvolvimento (IPAD).
A sua investigação atual está ligada à ciência de dados, processamento de linguagem natural e inteligência generativa.

É, atualmente, Diretor Geral da Correos Express Portugal. Iniciou a sua atividade profissional em consultoria de gestão na Accenture. De 1998 a 2003 geriu e participou em projetos envolvendo diversos setores de atividade, dos quais se destaca os Bens de Consumo, alimentar e não alimentar, Serviços e Indústria, nomeadamente metalomecânica, engenharia, produtos elétricos e eletrónicos, ambiente, produtos químicos, entre outros. As áreas de atuação principais foram strategy and operations, supply chain management, business transformation e enterprise performance management.
Em 2003 ingressou nos CTT - Correios de Portugal, onde desempenhou funções de Diretor de Compras e Logística. Em 2008 assumiu funções como administrador executivo nas empresas Mailtec Comunicação (produção documental) e Mailtec Consultoria (tecnologias de informação).
Em 2012 foi nomeado administrador executivo/COO nas empresas CTT Expresso e Tourline Express em Espanha, ambas do sector de transportes expresso e logística. Em 2015 ingressa no grupo Rangel, como Country Manager da unidade de negócios de transporte expresso nacional, onde permaneceu até 2019. Foi CEO da Sousacamp de 2020 a 2023.
É Teaching Fellow da AESE na área de Operações e Inovação, desde 2019.

Foi Assistente da Faculdade de Medicina de Lisboa entre 1999 e 2003, tendo completado as Provas de Aptidão Pedagógica e Capacidade Científica em 2001.
Desempenhou funções em empresas multinacionais da indústria farmacêutica na área de medical affairs e marketing entre 2005 e 2019, tendo gerido várias equipas de gestores intermédios. Nestas funções desenvolveu conhecimento e experiência nas seguintes áreas: gestão de advisory boards, investigação clínica, design thinking, gestão de projetos, CRM, market research, performance management e planos de incentivos, planeamento de marketing e marketing digital.
As suas áreas de foco académico são os cuidados de saúde baseados em valor e a humanização.
Desde 2019, é consultor independente na área de gestão da saúde, colaborando com diversas instituições públicas e privadas nessa área.

Frequentou o PADE na AESE, em 2007, a par de outros programas de pós-graduação e educação executiva na Faculdade de Direito de Lisboa, Standford Business School (USA), University of Cambridge (UK), Stern NYU (USA), Kellog School of Management (USA) e MIT Sloan (USA).
É director do programa “Advanced Management in Energy” (AMEG), uma iniciativa da AESE em parceria com a Associação Portuguesa da Energia. Desde janeiro 2019 é Presidente do Conselho Consultivo da Unidade de Reservas Petrolíferas da Entidade Nacional para o Sector Energético (ENSE).
Iniciou a carreira como Oficial Engenheiro no Exército, em 1982, após a conclusão do curso da Academia Militar.
Em 1992, ingressou nos quadros da Mobil Oil onde dirigiu os Departamentos de Compras e de Engenharia em Portugal e em Espanha.
Mais tarde, já na BP plc, assumiu responsabilidades comerciais na área dos Combustíveis. Entre 2000 e 2005 foi director de Operações da BP Espanha, com base em Madrid. Assumiu posteriormente funções internacionais na área da Segurança e Ambiente para toda a região da Europa, bem como a direcção do Departamento de Logística de Combustíveis para a península ibérica.
Foi Presidente e Administrador-Delegado da BP Portugal entre 2010 e 2013, após o que prosseguiu a sua carreira como independente.
