Com diferentes graus de frequência, ouvimos frases como “...isso é um assunto da informática, vou apresentá-lo ao meu diretor de tecnologias...”, “...a minha empresa não tem nada de importante para estes criminosos...”, ou ainda “...investir em cibersegurança não dá qualquer retorno económico...”. Destruir estas ideias e operacionalizar um modelo de governação que permita às suas organizações tirar o pleno proveito da transformação digital já em curso ao mesmo tempo que robustece as condições de resiliência digital da sua organização, é condição sine qua non para qualquer dirigente do século XXI.
Com efeito, e baseando-nos apenas do que aconteceu no nosso País em 2022, onde vários ciberataques de grande escala e âmbito ocorreram, existem evidências de que muitas das maiores empresas permanecem com baixos níveis de preparação nesta área. Embora os respetivos dirigentes já reconheçam a cibersegurança como uma importante parte das atividades na área do IT, ainda não compreenderam completamente o caráter estratégico e a necessidade de colocar a cibersegurança ao lado de outros fatores que determinam a sobrevivência do negócio.
É, por isso, fundamental construir o futuro com base na capacitação digital das organizações como catalisador da inovação e desenvolvimento e fazê-lo, alicerçado nas melhores práticas de cibersegurança, é um promotor de Confiança. Só com um elevado nível de maturidade em Cibersegurança nas pessoas, processos e sistemas das organizações, é que estarão reunidas as condições para a sua resiliência digital e subsequente promoção do desenvolvimento económico sustentado. But, at the same time, it is associated with many of the problems we live with. Inequality is a good example. Even more, the new global challenges, like the risk of ecological collapse or the everywhere present impact of technological disruption, are showing that traditional capitalism cannot respond. A global shared sense of urgency and innovative approaches are required. It has to involve governments, institutions and a strong civil society. Companies play an essential role leading the needed change. They have to ensure the creation of shared value for all the stakeholders. They have to run purpose driven businesses, redefining their role in society.
The good news is that there is a general growing support to this approach, from SDG to ESG trends. But it requires clear and responsible company leaders and strong commitment from Boards. A good example is Fundación SERES, Spanish association focused in connecting economic and social progress, with over 150 companies representing 30% of Spanish GDP.

Telecommunications Engineer from the Universidad Politécnica of Madrid and PDD from the Instituto de Estudios Superiores de Empresa (IESE).
He started his professional career in Sainco and in 1983 he entered the spanish branch of the IT multinational Hewlett Packard, where he was appointed director of the Telecommunications, Electronics and Defense area. In the beginning of 1992 he was designated Director for Spain of AirTouch International, one of the founders of Airtel Móvil S.A, where he was Director of Technology, obtaining the first licence when the liberalisation of the Telecommunication sector occured. CEO of Microsoft Ibérica from 1998 and July 2002, he then went to Vodafone, first as COO and later appointed CEO on February 2003 and Chairman CEO on January 2008. Until the 1st of January 2019 he was Chairman of Vodafone España and Chairman of Vodafone España Foundation. Nowadays he is the Chairman, since april 2015, of March R.S. which belongs to Banca March. He also chairs Fundación SERES which unites more than 140 companies and focuses in promoting the compromise of the companies with Society.
Francisco Roman is a member of the Board and Adviser of: Universidad Europea de Madrid (Laureate International Universities), The Advisory Board del Global Corporation Center of IE And of the Professional Council of ESADE. He is also a member of the Directive of the Círculo de Empresarios, The Rector Council of APD (Asociación para el Progreso de la Dirección) and different sectoral associations of Telecommunications. He was an independent adviser for NH Group (2014-2017). In the Social field he is patrono of Fundación CASER. In the innovations and startups development field, he takes part on Vitamina k and K Fund, and is a member of Bullnet’s Advisory Council, a venture capital society specialized on technology. She writes and researches on a wide range of business ethics topics at the IBE. As part of her role, she is responsible for advising organisations on different aspects of their ethics programme and she has developed and delivered ethics training to different audiences. Before joining the IBE, Guen collaborated with the inter-university centre for business ethics and corporate responsibility EconomEtica in developing the code of ethics for the Italian Association of Management Consultants and worked for CSR Europe, a European CSR Business Network based in Brussels. She holds a Master’s degree in Business Ethics and CSR from the University of Trento in Italy. Guen was born in Italy, near the Alps, but has lived in London for many years.
