A possibilidade que têm as empresas de se financiar nos mercados de private equity foi um desenvolvimento muito significativo. Agora, é possível alcançar uma capitalização igual ou maior do que a de algumas empresas cotadas sem precisar de entrar na Bolsa. Tanto assim é, que a palavra “unicorn” como referência às empresas não cotadas com um valor de mercado superior a $1bn (mil milhões de dólares) verificou-se ser insuficiente e acabou por ser adotado o termo “decacorn” para as que ultrapassam os $10bn.
As finanças empresariais também foram objeto de uma mudança que pode ser de conceitos ou de ênfase em determinados conceitos. A valorização das empresas por exemplo. Quanto vale uma empresa que se chama tecnológica, que perde mais dinheiro à medida que cresce e que não pode dizer se algum dia será rentável ? Alguns investidores pensam que pode valer muito, outros têm dúvidas sobre isso.

Água, André Vilares Morgado e Adrián Caldart.
O trabalho de investigação tem em conta que “um dos principais motivos do fracasso de numerosos projetos de grande envergadura são as práticas de governo adotadas ao desenvolvimento deste tipo de empreendimentos.” Por essa razão, o artigo oferece “10 recomendações para robustecer o dito governo, e assim, facilitar o êxito na implementação de megaprojetos.” Os Professores apresentam as suas sugestões tendo em consideração temas chave como dinheiro, poder e iniciativa, que no contexto da configuração institucional dos megaprojectos são aspetos determinantes para a sua viabilidade.
Os autores utilizam o termo megaprojetos para referir grandes projetos de infraestrutura pública e privada que impactam na vida das comunidades. Segundo os autores: “o conhecimento existente sobre governo corporativo foi desenvolvido, sobretudo, por advogados e economistas, ao passo que a área de conhecimento que versa sobre o governo de projetos começou mais tarde, impulsionada por especialistas na área de gestão e projetos (administradores de projetos e engenheiros) que têm um perfil mais técnico em geral.” A especificidade da gestão de projetos de grande dimensão fica a dever-se em larga medida ao facto de que “nos projetos, distanciamo-nos das estruturas de poder piramidais típicas e aproximamo-nos de um contexto de estrutura matricial, que pode ter uma forma subjacente de «quase-rede» de pessoas.”
O artigo agora publicado reforça a actividade da AESE Business School no campo da criação de conhecimento. Nas palavras do Professor André Morgado “a publicação em revistas internacionais é a melhor forma de credibilizar a investigação que a AESE tem vindo a fazer nas diversas áreas do saber onde a escola está presente”. Segundo o mesmo professor, este investimento é importante, uma vez que “os nossos alunos exigem conhecimento gerado em primeira-mão e que não deixe de aliar a relevância prática com o natural rigor científico”.
